Definitely take that idea and run with it. And if you improve on it, let me know. I'd love to see it. I basically copied the table of contents from my ebook and made it a page here, and I added some info.
I'm still trying to figure out how to improve the presentation for my publication. So far, I think the stuff that matters most is having a Table Of Contents, having a page that talks about what the publication is about (mine is the Introduction), and having "Start Here" for the first page of the novel... all pinned to the publication's menubar.
One annoying thing about having a table of contents is that you have to edit it every time you post a new scene for your novel, to add the latest link... but it's worth it, I think.
I really admire how well you've laid out this serial. The sub chapters were a great idea! I wish I'd thought of that earlier. If you check out my serial, you can actually see me leaning the format as I went along! Looking forward to diving into yours. 😀
I’m posting my novel exactly as I wrote it: Chapters, divided into Scenes.
Each scene in my novel has a title.
The only thing I changed for Substack is, I added a number to the beginning of each scene’s name, to make it easier for readers to follow. Every time I post a new scene, I have to go back and figure out what number I left off at :)
If you’re posting a novel, definitely write a table of contents page and pin it to the menubar in Substack. It’s really helpful for readers. You’ll have to edit it every time you post a new scene, of course. But it’s worth it!
The novel is currently 94 thousand words, but I’m editing. At this point, editing mostly means looking for typos and errors, and triple-checking the details.

My novel is 94k words long, divided into 93 scenes. I post the next scene every Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
At 3 per week, I'll be posting scenes through the end of September!
I agree! The options for formatting baffle me, though. Very counterintuitive. I have someone lined up to help me, though.
